Superbowl Sunday is one of my favourite American days because American football is my favourite sport. I’m not sure which I enjoy more: the game or the delicious cuisine… Even if you’re not a football fan, who doesn’t enjoy game-day food? I prefer to start each Sunday with what I refer to as “morning fuel.” Avocado toast and wine spritzers are light and refreshing options to begin the big day.
Game-day food preparation is necessary as a host, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. A nutritious breakfast will help you get the energy you need to go through the day until the celebrations begin. I prefer to make the meal light and simple while still being filling.
Avocado toast is simple to make and comes with a variety of topping options.
I have yet to meet someone who does not enjoy avocado toast. My entire family enjoys the toast. There’s something about this toast; the smoothness of the avocado, the crunch of the toast, and the flavour of the salmon; my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Outstanding! Outstanding! It’s possible that the first time it appeared on a menu was in 1993 when Sydney chef Bill Granger began serving it at his cafe.
There must be a cocktail to accompany the meal to round up the meal. Light fruity cocktails are ideal for breakfast and brunch. The possibilities are unlimited, but wine spritzers, sangrias, and bloody marys are among the most popular. These drinks are excellent complements because they contain fruit and vegetables, and some even have savoury ingredients. I AM ALWAYS AMAZED when I see bloody marys with olives, celery, pickles, and bacon. I appreciate the innovation, but I’ll stick to my wine spritzer.
A wine spritzer is made out of wine, a carbonated mixer, and your favourite fruit.
White wine spritzers are incredibly popular; there is no better way to cool down on those hot days. While I don’t drink white wine in the summer and red wine in the winter, I drink red wine spritzers in the fall and winter. They combine the best of both worlds: gorgeous, robust, rich flavours with a hint of fizz and fruit. I assure you, spritzers are delicious, and avocado toast with wine spritzers is always a dinner I can support.
Wine Spritzers and Avocado Toast
For this breakfast, I chopped up some nice fresh ripe avocados and a boiled egg, then layered it on top of some crispy buttered toast with beautiful smoky salmon pieces. Visit my Instagram feed to learn more about my lovely boozy wine spritzer.
